Thinking about getting rid of a popcorn ceiling? Book a test before any work begins. That textured finish is one MDH lists among ceilings that may contain asbestos. When the lab confirms it, we close the room, mist the texture and bring it down into bags, so you end up with a clean, bare surface ready for paint.

The ceiling exemption for houses ended on July 1, 2021. Since then, Minnesota’s asbestos rules apply to ceilings in single-family homes and in buildings of up to four units, and a licensed contractor is needed when friable texture covers more than 6 square feet. We take these jobs in Coon Rapids, Anoka and Fridley.

Ceiling jobs we handle

Living rooms, halls and bedrooms

Whichever room it is, we start by clearing it and sheeting the floor and walls. A HEPA negative air machine keeps running from the first scrape until the last bit of texture is bagged.

Painted or water-stained texture

A painted ceiling or one with water stains soaks up moisture differently. Both get checked during the site visit, and we choose the method to match.

Ceiling tiles

MDH also lists old ceiling tiles. Where positive tiles hold together, we take them down whole and bag them right away.

Texture you can leave

An intact ceiling that nobody plans to touch can stay as it is. Sanding, new light fixtures or a ceiling repair bring the question back.

How a ceiling job runs

First comes setup, with plastic on the floor and walls, a sealed doorway and negative air. Removal follows, with the texture misted so it comes away damp. Cleanup and air sampling close the job, and the plastic stays up until the air results are back.

Furniture and fixtures

Help us by emptying the room ahead of time, from the sofa and rugs to the frames on the walls. Anything attached to the ceiling, such as a fan, a light or a smoke alarm, is taken down or wrapped before we hang plastic.
