Tile lifted by hand
Our crew works tiles loose with hand tools and lifts them out in one piece wherever they allow it. We never sand, grind or chip asbestos tile, since each of those turns it into broken bits.

Asbestos can be in vinyl tile, in sheet flooring and in the glue under both. Each layer gets its own sample, and whatever is positive comes up by hand down to the subfloor, bagged piece by piece.
Pulling up an old floor in Coon Rapids? Check the date July 1, 2021 first. That is when Minnesota stopped exempting floor tile and sheeting in single-family houses and in buildings with up to four units, so the same asbestos rules now apply to a kitchen floor as to any other material. We take flooring jobs across Coon Rapids, Anoka and Fridley, from a single bathroom to a whole basement.

Mastic is tested separately. It can return a different result from the tile above it, and the removal plan follows both.
Older linoleum-type sheet floors are a separate case from tile. MPCA says the paper backing on this type of flooring is friable in most cases, which is why our crew mists each strip while it peels away from the subfloor and seals it in a bag before moving on.
Not every old floor has to go. In MDH’s guidance, flooring that is intact and undamaged can stay put under the new floor, while cracked or worn pieces can release fibers and need a different plan.
Before we arrive, the room needs to be empty of furniture, appliances and rugs. Plastic sheeting is taped along the base of each wall and over every doorway, so nothing can stay behind.
Old tile can sit under carpet or a later floor. Tell us about every layer you know of, since each one may need a sample.
With the tile gone, you may see soft areas or signs of past leaks in the subfloor. We let you know, so the flooring installer can account for them.
